LANSDALE, PA – Aubryn Ridge, senior basketball player at Calvary Baptist, scored her 1,000th point of her high school basketball career in the 20 point win over Salem! Coming into the game at 997, the crowd did not need to wait long for Ridge to hit the milestone. After scoring an early basket, Aubryn hit her 1,000th point on a breakaway layup. As the crowd stood to cheer, Ridge embraced her parents and gave them the game ball.
“It was a really wonderful night and a great way to start the game,” said Coach Hampton.
“You have to be extremely consistent and healthy for 3 years to reach this goal. There really isn’t a weakness to her game. Aubryn has played nearly every position over her career and excels at whatever is asked of her. I am proud of you! Great job, Aubryn!” said head coach Timothy Hampton.
“Aubryn deserves this achievement more than anyone I know. She has worked hard not only to improve herself as a player, but also improve the team through passionate leadership and constant encouragement.” said co-captain, Grace Leader.
Aubryn is only the third athlete in girls’ basketball to achieve 1,000 points in Calvary’s 50-year history.
Ridge will continue her basketball career at Pensacola Christian College.
After play resumed, the two teams battled and Calvary went into halftime with an 8 point lead. Calvary got into foul trouble in the 2nd quarter and needed to pull off their press. That changed in the third quarter as the press came back on creating a lot of turnovers and helping to increase the lead to above 20 points. Salem never really bounced back and Calvary was able to secure their 4th straight victory.
Aubryn Ridge led the scoring with 22 points; followed by Aubrey Hampton with 12 and Grace Leader with 7.
Calvary Baptist Warriors won a very physical battle with league rival Salem Christian by a score of 47-27.
