Performing Arts

Drama at Calvary Baptist School is an exciting way to explore and develop confidence and creativity! Learn theatrical skills like character development, stage presence, projection, enunciation, and memorization. We strive for excellence while working together as a team to glorify God and share His love.

General information – At CBS, we believe that God can use the art of storytelling and theater to reveal the truth about who He is, who we are, and how we should live in light of His Truth. Our Drama Department provides opportunities for high school students to strive for excellence as they learn about various aspects of drama and theater.

Students learn projection, enunciation, character development, script memorization, and stage presence as well as communication, teamwork, and confidence. They then use these tools to develop believable characters through dialogue and physical movement.

Major performances include a Fall Dinner Theater and a full-length Spring Production. Students also participate in preschool chapel programs, dramatic skits, ministry opportunities, and trips to local theatrical performances.

Drama class is one of the most stretching and fun things you can do at CBS!

“I believe theater has the power to change how we think and how we view the world.  It is a tool that we can use to reach people’s hearts and minds. It is my desire to encourage my students to strive for excellence while pointing the focus and glory to Christ”

Music

Calvary Baptist School provides a wide variety of opportunities for students to learn and develop in the area of music. From classroom music to private lessons, to choir and instrumental groups, CBS offers many different avenues for students to participate in.

Elementary Music Program

The elementary music program at Calvary Baptist School offers classroom music instruction from Kindergarten-6th grade. We teach students to read, create and perform music both alone and with others to the best of their ability and to the glory of God.

Private Lessons

The Fine Arts program of Calvary Baptist School offers instruction at all levels and welcomes those who are new to music as well as those who have been refining their talents for many years. Our teachers strive with every lesson to help every student excel in his/her God-given talents. We offer private lessons in piano, beginning guitar, flute, violin as well as other instruments.

Band Program

The four bands each represent a graduated level of training.
  • The Beginning Band offers elementary students in 5th and 6th grade an opportunity to play one of the basic instruments of the woodwind, brass or percussion family. No prior knowledge of music is required.
  • The Elementary Band program is for students in 6th grade who have graduated out of beginning band.
  • The Junior High Band is a continuation of the Elementary Band and offers more opportunity for performances and training.
  • The Senior High Band provides advanced instruction in band performance and provides opportunities to perform throughout the year.
